Sunfish Beach Party

August 16, 2008

The Beach Party was great fun on Aug. 16, thanks to all that attended. There were about 30 people that came out for the party. Every one pitched in to help, making this like a family outing. The kids played on and learned to sail the Sunfish. Some adults also had never sailed the Sunfish or sailed solo.

But then the Family Feud began! There were 16 racers (family) signed up to argue the wind and weight of the beautiful day’s weather. With four heats of four racers pitted against one another. The wind began to build through all of the races. The poor old and tired Sunfish had some mishaps by end of the day. There were only three Sunfish left. With a few changes to the brackets to accommodating the missing Fish. This eliminated it down and only two racers were still standing. One of the racers was dressed in matching colors knowing of the purse’s color. Only to find out that the purse was missing. The Rum was also missing. Not being discouraged he poised the starting line with determination. This paid off; Stu Robinson won the true BOB race. Rounding the finish mark well ahead of his competitor. Stu grabs the Beer On Buoy and toast to his victory. With the purse missing Stu did receive a “Round the Mark” Sunfish tee shirt as consolation. Great job, Stu, and all that raced.

Let’s eat. The hotdogs were cooked and the sides on the table. A ravenous bunch attacked the table to fill the void of hunger. With the tummies appeased the fire was started by the beach’s edge. Soon the guitars began to play and the singing sounded out. Well there was a full Moon that night so it probably sounded like baying at the moon.

The standings for this unofficial BOB races this year are Alan Julian 1st race(Aug. 9) Stu Robinson 2nd race(Aug.16) . There is a rumor of a third race a “Sunfish KaBOB”. So lets all think when a good time for this to happen would be.
